How to Find Web Directories

When you are searching for directories it may get hard to find anything good past the top few results. For that reason you may want to exchange links with like minded sites. You still have thousands of small directories to find though, and there are many advanced search features to help you find diamonds in the rough.

Your Site Goes in Various Niche Directories

It is important that you realize your business or web site overlays many categories. With that being said, I will use this web site as an example. My web site is about: webmaster resources, search engines, business to business, marketing, small business ... also, don't forget location specific directories.

Small Business Example

I can find directories about any of these terms and justify my inclusion into their directories. One of the top ways to find these directories is to perform a search for the type of directory our market you are looking to list well in. For example we will use the "small business" idea to find small business directories.

If you perform a search for small business directory or small business directories and fall shore there still are many similar options. A small touch of creativity will allow you to find the hidden directories. Search for phrases such as:

small business + resources
small business + add url
small business + submit
small business + submit url
small business + web sites
small business + directory
small business + list

Finding Directories in the Open Directory Project

Using the above techniques, or similar ones you should be able to find many web directories and many incoming links. Another way to find directories is to search for them specifically within the open directory project.

A search such as: Google Search: site:dmoz.org inurl:directories would return directories.

In addition to searching for directories you can search for more specific directories such as Art Directories. the search site:dmoz.org inurl:directories art would include all pages with directories in the url and "art" in the page copy.

The Yahoo! Directory may also be a good place to look to find other directories within.
