• Pair - I have been recommended their services by many of my friends.
• Dreamhost - Dreamhost started as 4 grad students using a single computer and borrowed T1 bandwidth off of a friend in 1997. When I joined their service over 40,000 people had preceded me. That alone states much about their customer service. I was actually told about them from a photographer at a wedding. Dreamhost also offers a community feel to their service which further separates them from most of the competition.
• Rimu Hosting - offers lots of good expandable VPS hosting options.
• $3.75 hosting - they provide hosting on a monthly fee basis, not by the URL, but by the resources used (Bandwidth, Storage Space, Databases). they are a bit ghetto...if you change your credit card your hosting will go down with no warning, but they are ok for hosting secondary type sites.
