Why the Web

The internet is going to cause massive social and political changes. I am interested in learning, teaching, and being part of it. For that reason I love the internet. It gives me a voice .Whenever I write there is no company I am just speaking for, just me. This newsletter will go out over the weekend, that way I do not have to be too professional, hopefully you don't mind.

Tool of the Week:

This week one of my clients had some bright navigation colors which might have been chasing off customers. Navigation should show people how to get around your site, but not draw attention from the page content(unless that piece of navigation is the one item you really want the person to do). Good colors tools:

Book of the Week: The Cluetrain Manifesto

BUY The Cluetrain Manifesto: The End of Business as Usual

As much is this section is going to be used to offer good books, it will also require that I keep reading...which is good for all parties involved.

This book speaks of the simple fact that markets are conversations. The fact that I can write whatever I want in this sentence and the fact there is no hidden agenda is the reason I can compete against large companies in a competitive field. Companies have an image to keep up, ideals to uphold, stock prices that need to increase. In the business world frequently people forget that in one way or another every business exchange is from one person to another. This book takes 4 different looks from both sides of the corporate fence.

What Would You Like

This newsletter will only be good if I can offer what you are interested in. Please send your SEO questions or any ideas you have for things I should put in here.

Around the Web (news)

Weblogs are dated journals which are used by about 0.03% of the internet, yet they play a huge role in search results. To remove spam from search results, search engines have been relying heavily on links to organize search results. Weblogs generally consist of small posts with a few links in them. Some Weblogs allow users to post comments which link to their websites. Software systems such as Movable Type (http://www.movabletype.org) place these comments and trackbacks (references) in the same page as the post.

In addition to having a large link network setup, these bloggers are typically extremely opinionated people. The personal writing, close community feel about them, opinions of every nature, and the ability to leave instant feedback have caused these sites to leave a big footprint on the web.

You may find many people complain about blogs and how they are destroying the Google ranking system. There are two ways to look at this.

1.) they are destroying the internet and I want to ignore them - resist change at any cost
2.) they add value to the internet and I want to participate - go with the flow

Many websites are not even indexed, others suffer from low link popularity. By creating a personal weblog you can show the world you point of view and build a well indexed site with strong link popularity. Most SEO websites only have a PageRank between 4 - 6. By having a weblog, submitting it to a few of the weblog directories, and posting comments linking to your weblog from other weblogs you like you can easily get a PageRank of 6 within a couple months.

I am not proposing that people use weblogs to spam, but I am proposing that people share their views of the world and accept the fruits this idea bears. In addition to good popularity (which can be passed on to your other sites), having a blog can help take the corporate edge off of your business and allow you to connect with others.

In the upcoming week I am going to do a review of the blogging world and include it on my site. Stay tuned!
